Rainbow began in April 1985 at Cordelia Cormack's family home in Melrose Estate, Nenagh — starting with just two children. Inspired by her mother Tess, a former school principal from South Tipperary, and her own Montessori training in London, Cordelia set out to create something special: a childcare service built on warmth, quality, and genuine community spirit.
Word quickly spread. Within months, Rainbow had reached full capacity, caring for 12 children aged 3 to 5. Tess played a guiding role throughout the early years, bringing decades of teaching experience to support Cordelia's vision.
Recognising the need for a larger, purpose-built facility, the family seized the opportunity to transform a property on Dromin Road, which opened as a full-day childcare centre in 2001. From there, Rainbow grew in step with the community — adding a breakfast club and ECCE classroom at St Mary's Convent Primary School in 2016, a third location at Tyone, and most recently a new centre at Nenagh Community National School in 2025.
Today, Rainbow cares for over 250 children and is home to a dedicated team of 40 across four locations.
